Occupational therapy assists individuals in performing everyday tasks and adapting to their social environment through utilizing specialized therapies. These therapies can range from getting dressed, memory training, and coordination exercises. It is the mission of occupational therapists to help people of all ages to live their lives to the fullest by promoting health, preventing conditions that lead to injury, illness, or disability, or improving their quality of life with such conditions.
The occupational therapists at Happy Kids PPEC evaluate children and their environments to come up with an assessment plan for intervention. In evaluating the child’s occupation, the evaluation consists of his or her performance skills (gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and process skills); behavioral patterns (habits, routines); and performance environment (cultural, physical, social).
Occupational therapy begins with the child, although parents are encouraged to partner with their Occupational Therapist. Treating and achieving the child’s therapy goals requires communication between the parent or aide and the therapist. The parent/guardian is encouraged to observe and participate in the treatment as it provides insight into the child’s experience and is a wonderful way to connect with the child and assist the child in managing everyday situations more effectively.
Our Occupational Therapists help children with their ability to perform daily activities such as eating, bathing, dressing, playing, etc. We aim to inspire positive change in the lives of the children we work with so that they can make progress while performing daily functional tasks.
